artist: boxcutter genre: 2 step -> dubstep

the lines get blurred here, the bass experiment continues. this album has quite a few “wordly” sounding instruments. it really feels like an interesting album all the way thru.

boxcutter - skuffd

artist: logistics genre: dnb

this isn’t that hardcore for the head strong stuff, you can tell this guy loves his soul house. don’t let the late nineties beat throw you off though. i like it, even if it reminds me of guys spray painting on sixth street.

logistics - everything is illuminated

artist: kiki genre: 4×4 blip

kikisirius.jpg

pure machine music. i was remembering robotech last night. am seriously considering acquiring the protoculture box set off amazon.

kiki - sirius

artist: the teenagers genre: electro-synth

teenagershomecoming.jpg

still sounds like 80s sound track music (minus the ableton stutters) but that doesn’t mean i don’t like it. and don’t listen to the words.

the teenagers - homecoming (gentlemen driver rmx)

artist: Yoshinori Sunahara genre: prefuse lovin hop hip

yoshinoripanam.jpg

this is another fun track that pops up on somafm. that sample sounds a lot like a suspense inducing sound clip preparing a late 70s television viewer for a commercial break. maybe it was “hart to hart”.

Yoshinori Sunahara - Love Beat

artist: populous genre: instrumental hip-hop

been listening to somafm too much, need to switch over to something with more bite. although bite doesn’t work when you are in deep thought.

Caspa room 710

Johnny and the peeps for Heavyweight did it up righteous last friday. Great turnout as you can see from the pic. Lots and lots of BASS. If this was outside somewhere, i feel the vibe would have been lost.

Fresh air is for birds, i like getting hotboxed!

Only a few times a year can you find what i like to call the BASS NEXUS.
Shiz is all wobbly and you’ve gone way past the brown note.

Here’s a tune from that night that sounded great on those speakers

THE PARTY HANDLE2.mp3

Hey this fell into my pocket i little bit ago, but it was unearthed during WMC couple weeks ago & became the f#$#$!!! mixtape of WMC2008 for us. I was in heavy rotation on our gomi as mister toad’s wild ride of WMC. Mixed by Austin’s own GORF & GHFI. THEY NEED AS PARTY SOMEWHERE, HEY, MAYBE THAT’S MY CUE, HEHEHE ENJOY!

Ghetto
I was having a lively discussion today with a fellow ElectronicAustinite(?) about dubstep.

Garage was a little too soulful like 80’s soulful House.

Grime always struck me a little cheesy with the synth action.

But dubstep producers have been bringing the menace back.

Not like the ultra-menace that happened to DnB with it’s insanely high BPM rates.
(A hint guys, that drives chicks off the dance floor)

Not some of the frontrunners with “world” instruments hearkening to enlightened vegan-techno-hippies running around in a forest,
but that deep bass menacing groove that makes the headz bob and fire up another spliff

That Caspa show at the 710 on Friday looks quite appealing. If I can get high enough I’ll roll out to it and get my head-bob on….

Here’s an older dubstep trk that has that DnB menace but slowed down,
the vocal is an acappella most producers have on their harddrive, but still pretty cool:
cotti & cluekid – sensi dub

Bonus: Now here is Grime trk i think is pretty cool and has a little menace to it
(Alert! It is not Dizzee Rascal):
Ghetto - Who’s Got

artist: solvent genre: pop

you know a record is good when you have the CD and you buy it online (twice). morr music put out a slowdive cover comp a couple of years ago and this is on it. for some reason i’ve been interested in old kinda uncool stuff like… oh well i guess i’ll grow a beard (sparsely).

solvent - when the sun hits

artist: putsch genre: disco

putsch.jpg

yes, space / metro area-esque.  early 80s sounds included.

Putsch - kisses

found another online radio station worth checking out : subfm

so far it sounds pretty fucking excellent, they claim to specialize in grime, dubstep and the like. right now it is more techno-esque. regardless, i just tuned in and it sounds great.

the reason for the post is that Caspa is playing at room 710 (710 red river austin tx). flyer:

caspa_flyer_web.jpg

they claim to be installing extra sound just for the event. i’ve been there, they will need to. featuring your Weight residents DJ I/O, Tyrant, Innerlign, Sloppy Jackson and Grommit. cover is 5$.

reminder tonight at plush is the weekly dubstep night
