artist: kusser genre: click hop

local austin resident kusser gives us some rumbling bass.

kusser - bassline

and i’m not sure i want to just focus on electronic music. a lot of what i listen to is blurs the lines so much that it really becomes kinda hard to tell. really i just want a cool radio station that plays what i like, which i’ve accomplished.

i’ll sleep on it. i guess if i change format i’ll need to change the url too….

artist: justus koehncke genre: techno

justus koehncke - Advance

i’m not sure how to classify but damn i have been listening to this track over and over. not to mention that i actually played this at a party on friday night. the crowd was a bunch of normal people (people who kept requesting rap and eighties) . instead i played what i wanted and they actually danced to it. it was strange to play all the “newish” electronic songs in my crate and see normal people dance. i’m completely confused. i actually broke down and played michael jackson after the 10th request. people left the dance floor. i cut the song short and played house and techno (lopazz, nuspirit, matt dear, miguel migs, justice and pretty much every song you’ve heard on this blog) they came back and danced. everytime i was convinced that it was done i’d through out something to drive people off but it never worked. grime, classic rock, nope, the drunkards kept hanging around. so i kept playing techno for FIVE HOURS. so i’m now convinced that the eighties have finally been beat to death on the masses. good.

it should be noted that normal american people seem a bit over excited about all things french. but i’m not complaining. i could have played ed banger records all night and they would have not complained. modular seems popular too. i guess grey’s anatomy must be playing cut copy.

oh yeah, no mashups either. (ok forgot about one girl talk tune to see how they would react).

after the party i talked to a bunch of people that were hanging around. i quizzed them about their musical tastes. i was pretty convinced that convention of europeans had invaded austin. nope, everyone was completely run of the mill austin. they loved ACL, loved jam bands like string cheese and wide spread panic. they all listened to what every youngish person in america listens to (bloc party, daft punk). BUT they dance to techno. this is very very very different from what i had been witnessing for the past ten years. now to be fair i did mix it up, i’d do techno, house, electro-house, rocknrave into some sort of breaks. i’d throw out some hip hop for novelties sake. most of the songs had vocals (even if they were just cut up loops). well actually, just listen to my radio station, i played that stuff.

so i believe that america is ready for another electronic revolution (much like we had in the nineties with prodigy, underworld and crystal method). underworld is my fav of the three. ok i’ll get on that.

fans of everything but the girl, daft punk and pet shop might all enjoy this one.

science for girls - you’ll never know it

artist: bob sinclar genre: daft punk source material 20 yrs ago

yeah, wrong album cover but its great ain’t it? it must have been interesting to be a french disco dj 20 odd years ago. i suspect that music world has not much changed since then.

bob sinclar - supernature

this was at the super great Maker’s faire in austin,tx last saturday. next year i encourage everyone to go. it was the coolest convention i’ve been in recent memory.

this video really is an improv song from 3/4ths of The City Of Hungry Ghosts and STHIL. The idea here is to start a song with a blank Ableton project. Meaning nothing really. This songs actually started about 3-4 minutes before the video you see here. that is ok because up until that point we were slowly just building up the song from scratch. it started with me throwing a beat out with a drum machine. then i sampling and looping the bass guitar riff. then looping a vocal part that really became the main part of what you hear “the eyes they penetrate”. then a bunch more sampling and looping from the microphones (lots of jenn and blue). then it was time to speed it up +40 bpm and glitch it out, all in real time with no previous practice. The camera mic only picked up a small spectrum of what was going on, no hi pass loops from Jenn could be heard. No real bass riff can be heard (around 50-60hz).

ok ok, it sounds interesting to me cause i geek out over stuff like this and i was the geek on the keyboard.

if you think about, it is pretty neat to work with a group of musicians that can just throw out ideas and run with them right away. technology really helps us do cool stuff now.

enough shameless self promotion

on that note here is something off an adam freeland comp:

kim - wet n wild (midnight juggernauts mix)

artist: pedro genre: instrumental jazz click hop.

ok i just right off snagged this from covert curiosity. check out this blog, there is some great stuff up there.

as far as Pedro goes, i like jazz and hip hop so this guy melds the two beautifully. really i just wanted to get this guy into the playlist.

to boot his album title sounds like the title to a miranda july movie and his previous work is on emusic!

squarely on the melodic indie pop electronic side of things.

artist: grandmaster flash genre: true electro

gmf.jpg

it is interesting that anything that sounds like super compressed euro-club music (i won’t name names) and/or anything that is really a remixed rock band with keyboards is also called “electro” It seems nowadays that anything that is slightly hip (or wants to be) is called electro. The same thing happened with “alternative music” in the late eighties. It then became commercial “alternative” music. Actually in the eighties anything that was considered different, hip and NOT on the radio got lumped into it. So we have a little bit of history repeating and pop eating itself then defecating then eating itself then…

grandmaster flash - scorpio

artist: mf doom genre: real hip hop

doomsday.jpg

yeah, he has a lot of shit out, i like this old one.

MF Doom - doomsday

artist: theo parrish genre: techno

the matt dear show last night was good. indeed the rumors were true, he had a drummer and bass player. yeah, he introduced some “rock” stuff. he had his dad come out and play guitar for one song. the combo worked great. but then again listening to any one form of music for too long tends to bore me, so i’m glad he broke up his set like he did. his visuals also really worked to his favor. all in all i had a great time, my only complaint was that he couldn’t go all night. it was cool to see a dedicated crowd really into something. also i discovered a new type of fan adoration. instead of yelling “play freebird” or “i love youuuuuu”, this one adoring fan did a type of death metal / cannibal corpse growlyell. like straights from the depths of a norwegian hell. i think this guy was on to something there. rooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

i’ve already posted a couple matthew dear tracks in recent memory so instead i’ll post this semi gloomy hypnotic track by theo parrish now:

theo parrish - falling up (carl craig rmx)

artist: matthew dear genre: micro-house, minimal techno

this rmx is from sara, it is pretty off kilter, i like.

she also informs me that he will be here in austin tonight at emos.

i last saw him for his audion project, i believe that he is on tour with a band (gasp)?

actually his new stuff warrants it, i’ll be there. thanks sara for letting me know.

matt dear - dog days (pantytec rmx)

artist: eliot lipp genre: electro idm trip hop

just joking, only have driven through. seemed pretty dismal, like harrisburg. only closer to the sea.

thanks to sara for this tip. also, i yanked this off the great music blog http://www.3hive.com/.

it should be noted that i usually just grab songs my private store, no reason to just aggregating what everybody else is doing.

eliot lipp - rap tight.mp3

tegan & sara

Rihanna’s Umbrella must be a popular song in the music world.
Its been remixed by VNDLSM and recently, covered by Tegan and Sara whose Walking with a Ghost (the Party Ben mashup version) was covered by the White Stripes.
Ok, let me take a breath.
By the way, have you heard the Seven Nation Army cover by Vivek Shraya?

Electrophon Syndicate Logo

artist: henrik schwarz / Ame / Dixon genre: detroit minimal techno

i really like listening to this stuff while i work. can focus on the bits.

ok, so the radio is working ok? seems good on my side. is blue reading? if so, this track is great of example of something we should try, this and look up lopazz.

henrik schwarz / Ame / Dixon - where we at (version 1)
