In honor of last Saturday’s mash-up at Gomi, this is a experimental glitch fest with starts/stops, high end crispiness, tarnce turned aggressive noise house. You’re not gonna find this on wikipedia or eMusic. Big ups for PBR, Gomi scratching, big Blue on vox, and Da SaxMan.
One day we will record the mayhem but for now you just get…
This week’s installment of last week’s mp3s

artist: little brother genre: hip hop

I kinda wish they signed to a non-major label and stayed indie. I understand they are leaving atlantic and that 9th wonder is out too. Here is the first single off their atlantic release.

here is some old stuff that is supreme.

Little Brother - The Way We Do It (remix)

Artist: Jona Genre: minimal house

jona.jpeg

good stuff, just heard it on dirty radio so here it is…

Jona - Tizia

Artist: Silicone Soul Genre: disco house

siliconesoul.jpeg

It turns out that house is spun every thursday night on the roof of the Speakeasy. I checked it out last night. Yes they are indeed spinning house (om records style), not hip hop or top 40.

Who knew?

On that note, here is something you might hear there:

Silicone Soul - Chic-o-laa

for all the lazy mofos out there, here is a follow up to the daft punk post below.

The blog link in the previous post has all the actual full length songs in mp3 format. Nice.

Here is a quick video to cut straight to the heart of the matter. Fascinating!

Last time I saw Prefuse73 “Nobody” was on tour with him. Great match. It is raining today so I’d thought I’d keep with the downtempo. After the Summer Hits feels particularly appropriate. It doesn’t hurt that it is one of my more favorite songs on my HD. Porpoise Song is nice Monkeys cover. I’ll need to post some of his newer work later.

Artist: Welt In Scherben Genre: Evil UnTrance

evil trance

This is not euro-trance, with sweeping builds, super bright synths, vocals. No this is simple hypnotic evil trance.

Notice that I don’t even have a trance category, I renamed it to tarnce for the Tiesto’s of the world. Now, I should state right away that I don’t hate Tiesto or Ferry Corsten or Oakenfold. I don’t listen to them everyday or have much of their stuff on my HD. But I don’t hate it. Ok Ok I have a bit of Ferry floating around and I definitely do not hate it. Back to the subject of hate, I reserve that special state of mind for the shit I do HAVE to hear everyday, American top 40 radio. Now if I had to hear it day in day out, I’d reconsider..

So,

I’m a bit annoyed that I can’t use the term trance (original) without someone freaking out. “OMG I hate trance”. Even after I explain the term trance was hijacked they can’t get over it. I ain’t talking about you Kusser, this is everyone I seem to meet. When I think of real trance, I think of super repetitive hypnotic fast stuff that was meant to invoke a trance like condition, or something. As usual Philip Sherburne covers the topic much well-er.
Not so much this year, but last year during Winter Music Conference I got to hear my fair share of real trance and it was good.

Hell, just hit the play button and see for yerself. If you think it sucks don’t worry I’ll post more. Yeah I know there is the entire goa into psy-trance cat, that is a whole different permutation. I’ll just stop there and resolve to just categorize it as ‘techno’.

Welt In Scherben - 1

Artist: Ellen Allien & Apparat Genre: Electro Techno!

I was just saying last night, many techno artists want to write accessible melodic songs now. I have no problems with this.
