detroit :

brit techno producer gives you weightlessness.

as one - reunion

good song. breakdown in the middle goes thru a ditch then back to the highway with a wobbly axle.

artist: jorg burger genre: pop ambient

it was gloomy when i woke, this song fits that weather. the term “pop ambient” feels like a contradiction, especially if you think about what is currently considered pop. any, all of the comps that go by that name are excellent, some ambient, some idm and some mellow techno.

jorg burger - men of many sayings

artist: oxia genre: cause to be happy

couldn’t do it better myself.

oxia - not sure

also, this saturday is the night to go out. highly recommended. really. much better than washing your hands repeatably and watching TV.

artist: kaito genre: mellow

not sure how what bucket to put into.  off the excellent “special life” LP.
kaito - inside river

Acid stuff with some break dancers
its a video and song done in one day.
what is the point of having a server/blog,
if you can’t be narcissistic
that’s what the internet is about, right?

artist: badmouth genre: minimal techno with vox

anymore.jpg

like the simple loopy vox. all in all this one is a good cross between techno and synthpop (without the loads of words). ok ok, there also is a matt dear thing too, but much more straight forward (for better or worse).

badmouth - anymore

artist: boxcutter genre: idm 4×4

glyphic.jpg

uncharacteristic for this artist, it comes across (in my mind) as a detroit-ish track. alex smoke-ish?

well usually he does dub-step, breaks, almost dnb flavor type stuff. the entire Glyphic album is great. so this track doesn’t represent it well, but i like so:

boxcutter - bloscid

artist: disco nihilist genre: detroit techno

disconihilist.gif

this artist is a local and is doing the laptop competition next saturday. apparently he is a former detroit resident thus giving him some street cred. seriously though i was intrigued by his band name (my moniker for the competition is disco hospital (go coil)). i surveyed his myspace presence and enjoyed what i heard. so i contacted him, no long afterwards he sent me some mp3s.

here is a good one, i’ve been really into this type of stuff lately:
Disco Nihilist - Martian Deserts

also, he is performing at a Backspin Records in-store this friday. Brooks Mosher, another detroiter turned austinite , is also playing this event. Bill Converse opens. he also said somethin about keg of free beer. i was right, 7-9pm.

ok, i guess i should try to seek out all the other laptop battlers and get them posted. Disco Nihilist got back to me super quick and easy, i have a feeling that i may meet some email apathy from others though…

artist: morgan geist genre: good

about so ten years ago this album was made, it sounds cutting edge to me today. quite unbelievable how good it is. this is a great precursor to all the minimal, idm, micro, melodic techno we are hearing nowadays. i would post the entire thing but i’ll let you get it at emusic on your own, it is a theme album and is meant to be heard as a whole (i attest to that). every track is an education and joy.

this is the first track off the Driving Memoirs, breaking it up seams a crime.

ok maybe i’ll do the first two tracks…

Morgan Geist - Doorbell

Morgan Geist - Flat Out

also my new favorite death metal band is Torture Killer. Forever dead is super great. i need to start a real metal blog.

artist: julian sanza genre: detroity techno

another Argentinian making good techno.
