down-tempo :
Really? Really?
This got more coverage than the guy interrupting the President.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! during a formal speech.
Wow. Did Taylor Swift get punched in the face?
Did Kanye interrupt her Nobel Prize speech? Oscar or even a Grammy?
C’mon it was the freakin MTV video awards.
MTV has completely jumped the shark in not playing videos and are so hypocritical in kicking him out because they were suppose to be the “maverick” awards show.
Not like the stuffy Grammys.
Well they are about as “maverick” as Sarah Palin about now.
THIS IS NOT NEWS YOU ZOMBIES!
Turn off Entertainment Tonight and How I Met Your Mother
Pay more attention to Health Care Reform, the litter in your neighborhood, and your kids’ education
Now here is trk 1 off the Redux Edition of the (freakin classic) Furnace album from DownLoad
I place this album about as important as Metal Box by P.I.L.
The special 2nd disc in the Redux Edition contains the jams of some of the songs that the initial release were based on
Get out of the house and go buy those 2 records
your brain will thank you

Maga Bo is a DJ/producer working with an international collision of styles, sounds, location recordings from all continents and beats that have yet to be classified. A study in the digital contortions of hip hop, ragga, breakbeat and jungle drum ‘n’ bass, his sound is a divine (s)mashup of batucada, rai, capoeira, bhangra, and skewed electronic beats in a borderless conundrum of gritty street sounds, found and modified rhythms and melodies from Brazil, Morocco, Senegal, India and beyond. DJing and producing tracks with a portable laptop studio, he has worked and performed in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

once again, i hear this on somafm all the time. the songs strength rides on the bass synth, its by far the loudest thing in the track, until the drums kick in at 3:45. this is old, like from the early nineties, an eon in electronic music. i guess it proves that musical minimal electronic tracks have the ability to stand the test of time. for such a seemingly disposable genre, this one sticks around nicely.

fred said he dug the last show at the parish. here is the bassnectar evil myspace presence.
i will say this, the sound at the parish is great. this time it will be antones, where the sound is not so great, but i’m sure that won’t stop plenty of people from coming out. tickets are on sale at frontgatetickets. it should be noted that antones has had quite a few electronic acts over the past couple years.
i didn’t realize how much this guy tours. he must compose while in the van.
DJ Manny and BigFace open.

artist: Exponential label comp genre: melodic idm and downtempo
cool cover btw. i was not aware that there was an indie electronic idm downtempo record label in san antonio named Exponential.
FACT i) the founder (ernest gonzales) sent me an email last night stating that they do indeed exist and they are releasing a compilation. i’m listening to a preview right now. ernest also is The Theory of Everything, whom i have seen spin / perform in austin.
OPINION i) which tracks are best? who is to say, all i know is that i’m adding these to radio rotation. i’d like to post more than two songs but i’ll limit myself. Actually i listened to the entire thing two times through now, it is quite good but i have to pick just two so, when it gets released officially i’d like to do another post from some of the other artists.
SONG i) ok ok i’m a bit biased. i love this type of stuff when i’m programming. when the bass line kicks in it feels like afternoon delight, and there is a jazz flute. badass. Rae Davis myspace. well ok it looks like he is an austinite.
rae davis - pyramids
SONG ii) this from the label founder ernest gonzales, i like when IDMers add anything besides keys to their stuff, in this case a guitar is used (i hear a slight bernard sumner influence, especially on his other myspace tracks).
Ernest Gonzales - Caviar Cigarettes Dynamite Laser Beams
OPINION ii) you know, what this CD ain’t bad. i’d definitely download it. i’ll admit i get very worried when i hear the term texas and electronic in the same 15 minutes. i guess it is a bit of a weird reaction because all the people that contribute to this blog are electronic musicians living in texas and i like all their personal studio creations.
FACT ii) from my previous posts i hope it is evident that i loathe record reviews. this is exactly why blogs are so great in a futuristic way. i don’t need to talk that much about it, i can just link to it.
FACT iii) actually these words are for the spiders. if you like Groove Salad or Secret Agent on SomaFM, Baby Mammoth, Dabyre, Prefuse, Aphex Twin, old U-ziq then you will find tracks on this disc you will like. If you like melodic IDM and jazz inspired downtempo then you’ll like this stuff. No drone machine music here, which is ok. advice for Exponention, send this to SomaFM.
FACT iv) i’ve never been motivated to by a comp CD because it was regional, even though a lot of the comp CDs i have bought in my youth were in fact very regional (factory = manchester, nettwerk = vancouver, wax trax = chicago, world serpent = england or something). i just didn’t really know they were regional at the time of purchase. no offense to all the texas electronic musicians out there (i’m one of them) but texas comps typically conjure up music with lots of guitars and not in the norwegian metal fashion.
anywayz, go to Exponential and take look at all the artists myspace pages. if you like what you hear then pick up the CD when it gets released.
After listening to the entire CD i realized that someone took the time to actually layout the songs in a very flowing order.
artist: dj koze genre: downtempo techno
umm… it is a sprawling track. best just listen to it all the way thru.

seems like something a younger u-ziq would do. the album this is off the skintone collection. good stuff. its a departure from his hard disco house stuff. ok back to opeth.
Some new shiz i’m workin on. vocals and guitar done by a Austin local. this is my self indulgent, non dance floor, non radio mix.
