www.myspace.com/austinmpc

artist: my my genre: minimal house

like the straight pitch offset chords.

my my - pelourinho

i made my bi-annual trip to mall to get some things. needless to say, i’ll be very happy if i don’t see any more tweens for a while. or hear anymore young whiner rock. why is every song on the radio the same chord progression? why are bands still covering joy division (badly)? why is every lead pop rock singer really awful? autotune and vocoders can only fix so much, this i know.

conform, listen to instrumental music!

artist: kaito genre: mellow

not sure how what bucket to put into.  off the excellent “special life” LP.
kaito - inside river

artist: soulphiction genre: trance inducing funk house

no not to be confused with tarnce. only on the 2nd track but i gotta post.

soulphiction - ghana wadada

artist: badmouth genre: minimal techno with vox

anymore.jpg

like the simple loopy vox. all in all this one is a good cross between techno and synthpop (without the loads of words). ok ok, there also is a matt dear thing too, but much more straight forward (for better or worse).

badmouth - anymore

artist: john tejada genre: minimal fun

i’m on a kick with this stuff, yeah i’m 7 yrs off but everything goes in cycles. wait for it.

john tejada - harmonic turbulence

artist: beroshima genre: minimal techno

beroshima - horizon (pig and dan rmx)

for those of you that do not live in austin, SxSW is this week. some people think of it as a scourge rather than a blessing. i’m definitely more in line with the “scourge” line of thought. 15,000 bands converging on a city that are all gunning to be different yet suspiciously falling into 4 or 5 style categories doesn’t impress. well i’m sure it works for their respective target audiences.

there a couple of free events that are worth riding a bicycle to. keep in mind that i like all forms of music, its just that i expect to finish this new biography on lenin this weekend. i’d personally stay away from anything that requires money and doesn’t have free booze. period.

i’ve also discovered that waking up early-ish is more productive if you think for a living (i can only speak for myself). something about my the sun and bio-rhythms. this directly conflicts with watching a band get drunk then butcher songs that really had no need to written in the first place at 2am.

ok that is a little harsh. i really do like rock, country, and indie rock. the caveat is that it really must be good. speaking of good i see Kaki King is in town. she is fantastic. really, don’t be put off by her looks (young, female, youtube too often means fluff and no substance). she definitely has the goods. so in rare form here is something non-electronic.

see, guitars can be good. unfortunately she is inhabiting a very minute slice of the music industry pie.

fuck, electronic austin is such an oxymoron. i need to come up with something better, especially when i move.

March Mashup

artist: koudlam genre: melodic techno

gomi just pointed this out to me so.

its so good i’m just turning around and posting it immediately. it makes my day, hopefully it will yours.

the video at his site is bad ass too.

artist: the field genre: minimal ableton loop techno

yes, pitchfork is all over this but regardless, believe me it really is a great record. the older crowd will hear coil, orb and orbital influences. so much much so. man, everything really has been done. anywayz, i really like this record. after talking about endlessly at parties i’m finally getting around to posting:

the field - over the ice

as a side note it looks like Plush will have house every friday, at least for this semester. it was pretty crowed there tonight and fun.

ok yeah, i found this site on delicious: songerize. basically, imagine google but instead you just type in the song you want it starts playing it. i should have thought of that first but songbird does work.

artist: pig and dan genre: minimal techno

good stuff, last night at the gym it very adequately blocked out the top 40 dirt spewing from the uniformly placed overhead speakers. usually indie rock has a much wider and consistent frequency range, which is useful for blocking exterior songs out but this entire album is so interesting to listen to in headphones that i never noticed lily allen (that much). hell it even made her sound ok with this running underneath it.
yes it is a long as track.

pig and dan - moths

artist: morgan geist genre: good

about so ten years ago this album was made, it sounds cutting edge to me today. quite unbelievable how good it is. this is a great precursor to all the minimal, idm, micro, melodic techno we are hearing nowadays. i would post the entire thing but i’ll let you get it at emusic on your own, it is a theme album and is meant to be heard as a whole (i attest to that). every track is an education and joy.

this is the first track off the Driving Memoirs, breaking it up seams a crime.

ok maybe i’ll do the first two tracks…

Morgan Geist - Doorbell

Morgan Geist - Flat Out

also my new favorite death metal band is Torture Killer. Forever dead is super great. i need to start a real metal blog.

artist: gregor treshor genre: minimal techno

i just read this interesting article on which i share a perspective, being that blogs are the next social network (at least for those who are active electronically). passives will continue to utilize myspace and facebook. long story short: being more in control of your online destiny is much more attractive than to being bombarded by porn ads on Rupert Murdoch’s site, no offense intended. also i can post more than five tracks…

gregor threshor - black rain

this rmx is from sara, it is pretty off kilter, i like.

she also informs me that he will be here in austin tonight at emos.

i last saw him for his audion project, i believe that he is on tour with a band (gasp)?
