Really? Really?
This got more coverage than the guy interrupting the President.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! during a formal speech.
Wow. Did Taylor Swift get punched in the face?
Did Kanye interrupt her Nobel Prize speech? Oscar or even a Grammy?
C’mon it was the freakin MTV video awards.
MTV has completely jumped the shark in not playing videos and are so hypocritical in kicking him out because they were suppose to be the “maverick” awards show.
Not like the stuffy Grammys.
Well they are about as “maverick” as Sarah Palin about now.

THIS IS NOT NEWS YOU ZOMBIES!
Turn off Entertainment Tonight and How I Met Your Mother
Pay more attention to Health Care Reform, the litter in your neighborhood, and your kids’ education

Now here is trk 1 off the Redux Edition of the (freakin classic) Furnace album from DownLoad

I place this album about as important as Metal Box by P.I.L.

The special 2nd disc in the Redux Edition contains the jams of some of the songs that the initial release were based on

Get out of the house and go buy those 2 records
your brain will thank you

so i completely missed this stuff growing up.  eno collaborating with Holger Czukay (Can) alone makes it a worthy listen. have i posted any Can? i guess i should. kraut rock is supreme. the entire album follows the ambient / kraut vibe nicely.

Maga Bo is a DJ/producer working with an international collision of styles, sounds, location recordings from all continents and beats that have yet to be classified. A study in the digital contortions of hip hop, ragga, breakbeat and jungle drum ‘n’ bass, his sound is a divine (s)mashup of batucada, rai, capoeira, bhangra, and skewed electronic beats in a borderless conundrum of gritty street sounds, found and modified rhythms and melodies from Brazil, Morocco, Senegal, India and beyond. DJing and producing tracks with a portable laptop studio, he has worked and performed in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

VENETIANS SNARES NEW RECORD IS DOPE, HERE’s THE WIKI ABOUT HIM & A COUPLE OF TRACKS OFF THE NEW RECORD CHECK IT OUT!!!

Venetian Snares is the main performing alias of Canadian electronic musician Aaron Funk (born January 11, 1975).

Funk debuted on a record label in 1999 with the 12″ vinyl EP, Greg Hates Car Culture. Prior to this, he self-released material on cassette tape as early as 1992.[1]

From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Funk is known for making avant-garde electronic music often in odd numbered time signatures (often 7/4). He is an unusually prolific artist, having released records on the History of the Future, Isolate/DySLeXiC ResPonSe, Addict, Zod, Distort, Sublight, Low-Res, Planet Mu and Hymen record labels.

THIS FRIDAY @ THE TINIEST BAR IN TEXAS!!!

artist: heights of abraham genre: space groove

heightsofabraham.jpg

once again, i hear this on somafm all the time. the songs strength rides on the bass synth, its by far the loudest thing in the track, until the drums kick in at 3:45. this is old, like from the early nineties, an eon in electronic music. i guess it proves that musical minimal electronic tracks have the ability to stand the test of time. for such a seemingly disposable genre, this one sticks around nicely.

Kusser - Love is a Battlefield

My contribution to the 80’s covers. My live shows have been veering more towards the party-type stuff to move asses and make it a little more interesting than guys trading tidbits on technology like pound cake recipes. The slower stuff usually gets left at home and doesn’t get the video treatment.

Carl Stone
Performance 11 :: Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 :: Ballet Austin at the Firehouse
(3002 Guadalupe) :: 8pm-10pm :: $10 for AMODA Members :: $12 general :: Tickets at
End of an Ear (2209 S 1st St) :: All ages

So far i recommend this show, but the following is a rant that has nothing to do with Carl Stone.

Ambient / IDM laptop musicians that do REAL improv or composition (meaning plugging notes in on the fly or manipulating in real time) are good. I for one am swearing off Merzbow noise shows where the shows starts and ends with the clicking of the space bar. This is my def of not good.

Don’t get me wrong, i don’t care if you hit play in itunes but throw me a bone then. Smash something, flail around like a fish or bleed. i don’t care, but setting up a laptop, clicking the space bar and then proceeding to play FREECELL on stage for 45 mins is kinda lame. playing cards is boring to do and boring to watch, much less on stage.

Couldn’ t i just listen to the stuff at home (much cheaper) while playing portal? There are exceptions to this, if you or some-else has taken the time to do on the fly video THEN that can be a substitute for human activity.

I’m thinking of kusser here, but i know for a fact that he ain’t playing freecell. He is doing his video and beats mixing and mangling live in real time. Every show is different and he puts a lot work into it and it shows.

If an electronic artist is actually composing or mangling something on the spot, sign me up with bells. i’ll sit through an otherwise physically boring performance if a one of a kind aurally, visually or mentally stimulating movement is happening live before me. i personally do electronic ableton improv on a semi-regular basis and it can be fun to do and fun to listen to. Even though it doesn’t seem like much fun to see me frantically tweak knobs and click a lot.

All i’m saying here is if all you are going to do is show up and press play, why not ship the venue an ipod with your name tag on it. put the ipod on the stage and plug the ipod into the PA. when done, ship the ipod to the next venue. it’d be cheaper and would most likely get more press (at least for the first one to do it). of course a minimalist audio visual brooklyn artist has most likely already beat you to the punch, but it is worth trying in your town!

end rant

DISCLAIMER: i’m confident that MR CARL STONE won’t be guilty of the above rant. He seems to be doing stuff and his music seems quite good.

the firehouse space on guadalupe is a cool place to hold this event. i saw Xiu Xiu there once, for an AMODA event too.

Artist: Nobody Genre: ambient hiphop idm

Last time I saw Prefuse73 “Nobody” was on tour with him. Great match. It is raining today so I’d thought I’d keep with the downtempo. After the Summer Hits feels particularly appropriate. It doesn’t hurt that it is one of my more favorite songs on my HD. Porpoise Song is nice Monkeys cover. I’ll need to post some of his newer work later.
